Ngugi wa Thiong'o, born James Ngugi in Kenya in 1938, is a prominent novelist, essayist, and playwright known for his work in African literature. He was an influential figure in the post-colonial literary movement, advocating for writing in African languages to preserve cultural heritage. Ngugi's best-known works include "Weep Not, Child," "Petals of Blood," and "Decolonising the Mind." He has been a vocal critic of colonialism and political oppression, leading to his imprisonment in Kenya in the 1970s. Ngugi also worked as a professor in the United States and later returned to Kenya to champion the importance of African language literature.
