Kathryn Bigelow is an American film director, screenwriter, and producer known for her work in the action and thriller genres. Born on November 27, 1951, in San Carlos, California, she studied at the San Francisco Art Institute and Columbia University. Bigelow gained critical acclaim for her films including "Point Break," "Strange Days," and "The Hurt Locker," for which she became the first woman to win the Academy Award for Best Director in 2010. She continues to be a trailblazer in the male-dominated film industry, known for her intense storytelling and visually striking style.
