John Carlos is a renowned American track and field athlete known for his iconic protest at the 1968 Olympics. Born in 1945, Carlos specialized in the 200-meter dash and won numerous accolades throughout his career. However, he gained worldwide recognition for raising a fist in a black power salute on the podium, alongside Tommie Smith, to protest racial inequality. Despite facing backlash, Carlos continues to be an advocate for social justice and civil rights.
