Jim Jones
Jim Jones was an American cult leader who founded the Peoples Temple in the 1950s. Known for his charismatic leadership, he attracted a large following with his socialist ideals and message of racial equality. However, his increasingly autocratic behavior and paranoia led to the tragic events in Jonestown, Guyana, in 1978. Jones orchestrated a mass suicide of over 900 of his followers, including children, in what became known as the Jonestown Massacre. This event remains one of the most horrific incidents in American history.
