Alonzo Mourning is a retired professional basketball player known for his tenacious defense and shot-blocking skills. Born on February 8, 1970, in Chesapeake, Virginia, Mourning had a successful career in the NBA playing primarily for the Miami Heat and Charlotte Hornets. He was a seven-time NBA All-Star, two-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, and won an Olympic gold medal in 2000.
